To the family historian, Memorial Day is a bitter sweet holiday. Sure we love research our ancestors, most of which are dead, but Memorial Day is that day we give honor and respect to those ancestors who didn’t die of old age, or cancer, or heart disease. They instead died young, and on the [...]

I feel like a little kid! My job runs the school year, so I am officially off until August! I have one more week at church and I am officially done teaching on Wednesday nights! I am free to do whatever I want.
But for some reason, my brain can’t catch up to [...]

Remember that old song? Seemed our radio station only played it if it were night and rainy. I actually hate rainy days/nights. Being prone to migraines that means I am sensitive to the changes in atmosphere that rain brings with it. But it’s been a very busy week (or at least [...]

This weekend we went to our local library and I bought the book “Organizing From the Inside Out” by Julie Morgenstern. Most of it was pretty much what I do, but she suggests that you actually sit down and fit your schedule into the compartments (time slots) of your life, similarly to how you [...]

Spring is the time when we begin to declutter our houses, wash the windows, prepare for summer.
Genealogy shouldn’t be much different. As we work on paperwork, we need to decide: File, Toss, Giveaway. Some are easy. A marriage certificate for my 3rd great grandparents gets first scanned, then filed. A census index I photocopied in [...]
