My new toy…

Working on mom’s house, mostly painting, I have lost a lot of weight and really toned up. But alas all good things must come to an end. Hubby and I walk when we can, but my migraines and allergies make it hard to get outside some days, so I wanted a way to [...]

God smiled on me…

When the kids were little we had a saying that “God smiled on me…” when ever God did something that was unexpected, like a rainbow on a sunny day, or finding extra money left in an old pair of pants, or running into a friend at a take out place at lunch.
Well, today I am [...]

Would you correct it?…

My great grandfather died in 1920 of TB. He left a wife, who had two daughters before they married and three more by him. She later remarried and had another child. She died in 1928, leaving behind 6 children. The oldest two girls lived with grandfather, as did the baby, but the middle three [...]

How’s my genealogy organization going?…

Well, it’s not. I got busy helping mom and dealing with prom and graduation and still have Bible School on my plate, and as usual genealogy got pushed to the back. It will still be there for me when things settle down in the fall. LOL
But I can still work on adding new census [...]

Home Sing Monday

My routines have been non-existent lately, and believe me you can tell, so today I am getting back into some control around here and starting some Spring Cleaning to boot.
Here’s how I am going to get this house singing this week, because there aren’t enough hours in Monday. LOL
Monday:
Clean out fridge
Clean out pantry
Walmart for supplies
Publix [...]

Cool Jobs…

Looking at the 1930 census I have learned a lot about some cool jobs.
Laster at a shoe factory. The person who sewed the shoes together. A highly skilled job.
Lineman for the county. Wasn’t that a Glenn Campbell song? Even though TVA wasn’t formed until 1933, demand for electricity was high in Tennessee in 1930 and [...]

Itchy…

The weather here is so beautiful and Hubby and I decided to enjoy the pool today. And now I am sunburned. And itchy…But I did get in. Boy was it cold!
But I had a nice restful weekend and am ready for another week of work, kids, mom, genealogy.
Been working on the 1930 census [...]

Only 3 more years…

As cool as the 1930 census is, I am excited to see the 1940 census released in 2012, because my father will be on it. It will be so cool to see his name listed there with his brothers and sisters and my grand parents. I also hope to finally find out the [...]

How Economic times change families…

In October 1929, the stock market in New York crashed. In the weeks and months that passed, our nation fell into the worse financial times in it’s history, known as the great depression.
Anyone looking at families on the 1930 census can easily see the effects of this depression a year later. [...]

Wow, where’d spring go?

It was 87 today! And boy am I loving it. Last night I had a chance to work on the 1930 census via Footnote.com. I like their new search engines and was finding more people than I had time to use last night. I can’t wait to see them get all the [...]
