Tonight I have been looking for a very special picture of my dad. I couldn’t find it on my computer, although I am positive I had it on there at one time.
Dad is dressed in a devils costume. Dad loved Halloween. Every aspect of it. Dad got lung cancer in February, 2002. At first it was in one lung, and the doctor’s said they would operate and remove it. Then they told us no it was in both lungs. Then in his bones. This information was bestowed all in the same conversation. Dad was given 3 months to live. He lived 8. My dad died on October 27, 2002. He was only 66 years old. He left behind a daughter, a son, and three grandchildren. We buried him 8 years ago today.
Then my family go in our van, and drove home. We slept for 12 long hours and woke up on Halloween morning. We went trick or treating in honor of my father, who would have wanted it that way.
It’s hard to believe my dad would be 74 years old. In my mind, he’s still young. In my mind, he’s still wearing that devils costume, and he’s still taking all the neighborhood kids trick or treating. Tomorrow we will go trick or treating. Yes, I know it’s Saturday, but that’s what we will be doing. We’ll do it in his memory. He would have wanted it that way!

What a wonderful memory! I hope you and yours have a piece of candy for him tomorrow, too.
